Meghalaya safe for film shooting: Sangma

SHILLONG, Aug 4 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today said Europe is no longer safe and the Bollywood film industry should consider Meghalaya as a film shooting destination for its exquisite natural beauty and safety.

Inaugurating the three-day annual Indian Panorama Film Festival at U Soso Tham Auditorium here, Sangma said due to changed geo-politics Europe is no longer safe, but Meghalaya is.

He therefore said the Bollywood film makers should try and explore the natural beauty of Meghalaya for their film shooting. �The Government would provide all safety and security to the film shooting crew here,� he stated.

On the grievances of the local filmmakers, the Chief Minister said, the Government is aware of their problems and steps are being taken to address those.

He informed that the Government is planning to develop film infrastructure for the benefit of the local film makers and also of those from the rest of the country. Sangma also announced that two Centres of Excellence for Music would be inaugurated on Independence Day at Shillong and Tura.

�The Centres would provide a platform for the young musicians in the State to hone their talents�, Sangma stated.

The festival is being held by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with the State Directorate of Information and Public Relations. Tannu Rai, Deputy Director Indian Panorama attended the festival.
