Meghalaya PWD worker kills self

By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, Oct 12 - A PWD muster roll worker committed suicide, allegedly after he was not allowed by officials of the Patharkhmah branch of the SBI to withdraw his salary through a withdrawal slip, local villagers claimed. The deceased, Dum alias Bokda, hailed from Barigaon near Patharkhmah.

According to a delayed report received here today, the incident occurred on October 4. Comfort Doloi, a teacher of the area, said that the bank staff asked Dum to withdraw his salary, credited after three months, through the ATM. Dum requested them to allow him to use a withdrawal slip as he did not have an ATM card, but his request was turned down.

In the evening, he returned home and hung himself as he was in financial trouble, villagers alleged. He leaves behind his wife and two children, Doloi said. The manager of SBIs Patharkhmah branch could not be contacted as repeated calls to the branch went unanswered.
