Meghalaya police and CRPF pay tributes to martyrs

SHILLONG, Oct 21 - Meghalaya police and CRPF today paid tributes to its men who laid down their lives in the line of duty on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.

Over the years 125 Meghalaya police officials lost their lives while serving in the force. �Meghalaya police till date lost 125 men while maintaining law and order and security of the Nation,� State DGP RP Agarwal said.

Police Commemoration Day is observed throughout the country to pay tributes to the ten brave CRPF men who laid down their lives fighting against Chinese Aggression on October 21, 1959 at Hotspring, Ladakh.

Floral wreaths were placed by senior police officers in all the district headquarters with full guard of honour. In memory of the departed martyrs their names were read out by the district SPs in a ceremonial parade.

�On this solemn occasion, we pledge to continue to serve the people of the nation with dignity, commitment and dedication and to maintain public order and integrity of the nation,� the DGP said.

He further added that the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs would not go in vain as because of their valiant efforts the State�s law and order situation is now under control and the State is experiencing peace.

�It is a matter of pride to the force that sacrifices of these valiant CRPF men have been adopted by all the Police forces of the country as Police Commemoration Day,� Prakash D, Inspector General, North Eastern Sector, CRPF, said here.

To observe the occasion, Prakash D paid homage to all police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty from September 2017 to August this year.

He read out the names of 419 martyrs of all the police forces and different organisations and a two minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect in their memory.

�It is also a matter of great pride for the Central Reserve Police Force that 27 brave men from this force made the supreme sacrifice for the national cause and laid down their lives in the line of duty during the period September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2018,� Prakash D said.
