NAGAON, Jan 7 � Meghalaya men won the team title while Assam came 2nd and Tripura got the 3rd position in the XIV North-East Zone Carrom Championship which began here yesterday. In the women�s category Assam clinched the title pushing Meghalaya and Manipur to 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

On the second day today, in open junior boys� singles Manoj Das beat Mayur Shekhar Bora, both Assam, 2-1 in first semifinal while M Premkumar Singh of Manipur defeated Nihal Das of Assam 2-0 in second semifinal. In jr girls� M Monika Devi of Manipur beat Himashree Bora of Assam 2-0 and Pubali Ligira beat Trisha Ligira, both Assam 2-1 in semifinal matches. In women�s singles, Debajani Tamuly (Assam), Himakshi Baidya (Assam) and Mayurakshi Das (Assam) entered into semifinals. All the remaining matches and finals will be played tomorrow. The three-day meet was inaugurated by Pradip Kr Hazarika.
