SHILLONG, Sept 1 - The Meghalaya Governor and the Chief Minister, along with a number of individuals and organisations, have condoled the demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday. Governor Satya Pal Malik described Mukherjee as �not just a revered Head of the State but also a distinguished Parliamentarian, an able administrator and a fine gentleman�.
Malik said that the former President�s numerous contributions would be long remembered by the people. He conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Mukherjee.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, in his condolence message, said that during his illustrious career, Mukherjee had served the people with exemplary fortitude and dedication.
During his active political career, Mukherjee held several key portfolios and served as the Union Defence Minister, Union External Affairs Minister and Union Finance Minister, Sangma said.
�A statesman and scholar of unparalleled intellectual prowess, he was conferred the highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 2019,� the Chief Minister said. Sangma added that Mukherjee�s demise is a great loss for the nation.
Meanwhile, the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo indigenous chiefs have also condoled the demise of former President of India.
