Meghalaya Congress denies dissidence reports

By The Assam Tribune

SHILLONG, Feb 21 Meghalaya Congress today denied reports of fresh dissidence within the party even as it formed an intra-party grievance cell to prevent any rumblings in the State unit.

Pradesh Congress president Friday Lyngdoh heads the five-member grievance cell which also comprises former Union Minister PR Kyndiah and State unit working president Deborah Marak.

Any Congress MLA, member of district council or party functionary can approach the cell with their grievances. The cell will coordinate with the State Government and try to address it, Lyngdoh told a press conference here.

It is my duty to let the people know certain facts so that they can clear the air on the series of misrepresentations and speculations that have been circulating recently, he said.

There had been recent reports of dissatisfaction among some party MLAs who allegedly ganged up against Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and even took their grievances to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress president denied having met any dissidents. She was categorical that there was no question of change in leadership in the State. She has asked all partymen to work unitedly for the betterment of the people, Lyngdoh said.

The Pradesh Congress president also appealed to his partymen to set at rest any unnecessary or negative speculation about dissidence in the party.

Lyngdoh warned that action would be initiated against any MLA who goes against instructions of the party.

Meghalaya, a politically volatile State, has seen 22 governments in its 38-year Statehood. PTI
