Meghalaya CM meets Shah

SHILLONG, Jan 31 - Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured the State Government that he would take a decision on the implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) system in Meghalaya after the Delhi Assembly elections, slated on February 11.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma met the Union Home Minister in New Delhi on Thursday and apprised him of the demand for implementation of the ILP in the State. He also informed Shah about the resolution adopted by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in this regard.

According to the Chief Minister, Shah �was very positive� during the meeting. �He will send an official intimation to us right after the Delhi elections,� Sangma said.

The Chief Minister further informed the Union Home Minister that a delegation from Meghalaya would like to meet him over the necessity to implement the ILP.

The Chief Minister further said that he held discussions with Shah on the pending issues in the district councils.

�I updated him on the status of the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills District Councils and briefed him on the issues concerning each district council,� Sangma said.

Moreover, discussions were also held on the overall law-and-order situation in the North East and economic issues. �We spoke on various projects including the ensuing National Games,� Sangma said.
