Meghalaya active cases rise to 2,038

SHILLONG, Sept 19 - The active cases of COVID-19 in Meghalaya today crossed the 2,000 mark. Four more virus deaths were also recorded.

The State reported 112 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, which took the number of active cases to 2,038. East Khasi Hills continues to be the hotspot with 87 cases reported from the district.

West Garo Hills reported 18 new cases, Ri-Bhoi four, and East Jaintia Hills, South West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills recorded one case each. Forty-six patients have also recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 2,483 in the State.

East Khasi Hills accounted for three new deaths and the fourth one was recorded in West Garo Hills district. The total death toll in the State reported so far is 36.

Samples of 1,31,433 persons were sent for tests, out of which 1,26,022 tested negative. The reports of 854 samples are awaited.

Meanwhile, the containment order was lifted from the Keating Road on Thursday evening after rigorous contact tracing and testing of residents of the locality. During the lockdown period, the residents were given the option to buy essential items through designated volunteers appointed by the COVID management committee.
