Meghalaya active cases come down to 24

SHILLONG, June 12 - One more person has tested negative for COVID-19 in Meghalaya, reducing the number of active cases in the State to 24.

State Health Minister AL Hek said that the total number of people who have now recovered, stands at 19. The total positive cases in the State amount to 44 with one death.

Giving a break-up, Hek said that currently, East Khasi Hills has 10 active cases, West Jaintia Hills and West Garo Hills have five each, and South West Garo Hills has four active cases.

The minister said that samples sent for tests so far stand at 12,513, out of which 12,169 are negative and the results of 300 are awaited. Moreover, 15,058 people have returned to the State from outside, till Friday.

Meanwhile, the Director of Information and Public Relations has filed an FIR before the officer in-charge of the Cyber Crime Police Station against the administrators of a Facebook page called Lakewoods Eco Camp for uploading alleged fake news relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The FIR was also filed against unknown persons for propagating fake news through WhatsApp and other social media platforms.
