SHILLONG, May 6 � The second phase of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme was launched here on Tuesday after an agreement signed between the Meghalaya Government and New India Assurance Company Ltd.
The second phase would cover the entire population of the State and would guarantee an amount of Rs 2 lakh to individual families per annum for medical care. The scheme would also provide additional health insurance cover to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in a calendar year.
The scheme was launched in 2012 by the Congress-led Government in convergence with the Central Government�s existing health insurance scheme � Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY). A substantial number of families were covered in the first phase.
The scheme would provide insurance cover for a broad range of diseases, CEO, Megha Health Insurance Scheme and Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, MR Synrem said after signing the agreement with the insurance company.
