Mega agriculture credit camp organised

BARPETA, Aug 28 � The United Commercial Bank (UCO Bank) Barpeta recently organised a mega agriculture credit disbursement camp at the Tarun Ram Phookan Smriti Sadan, where loan amount of Rs 2 crore were distributed among 300 beneficiaries. The proposals for loan included Kishan Credit Card, dairy development, fishery and other agriculture-related activities.

The manager of the lead bank welcomed the loan seekers and guests present on this occasion. and highlighted the service of the bank in the district. He informed that the present growth of agriculture production in our country is 2.1% and the demand of food is 168.3 MT per year. The annual demand is likely to grow to 343 MT by 2020 and hence there is an urgent need to stress on agricultural production in the country. He also laid stress on the need of bank finance to enhance the production so that the required demand of food can be addressed properly.

Siddhartha Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, in his speech expressed satisfaction over the functioning of the bank in the district and thanked them for organising such an event for the benefit of the farmers. He requested the beneficiaries to avail the full benefit of the loan with proper utilisation and ensure timely repayment so that the bank is also encouraged to provide further financial assistance to them in future.

BR Chouhan, General Manager, UCO Bank, informed that the bank is providing credit to farmers to a considerable extent. He stated that by supporting the farmers the bank is giving impetus to the 2nd Green Revolution of the country as envisaged by the Central government to ensure food security of our nation.

TK Muduli, Zonal Manager, UCO Bank, Guwahati, deliberated on the schemes and programmes offered by the bank for the benefit of the farmers and the weaker section of the society. He stated that to reach the under-privileged people of remote rural areas the bank has initiated several easy and sympathetic banking services.

BK Baruah, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Dev), and B Manta, District Development Manager, NABARD Barpeta were among the prominent persons present on the occasion.

Three prominent farmers of the district were also felicitated in the meeting for their valuable contributions in the field of agriculture in the district.
