Meeting on Ambubachi Mela arrangements

GUWAHATI, June 18 - A meeting was organised today by the Kamrup Metro administration in the District Library auditorium here on arrangements for the forthcoming Ambubachi Mela.

Officials from the district administration, City Police, senior officials of various line departments and camps-in-charge of the Ambubachi Mela participated in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu said a detailed plan has been prepared for conducting the Mela and asked all officials and staff to perform their duties with sincerity.

He asked all the camps-in-charge to be at their posts at least half an hour before their scheduled duty hour, stay beyond their official timings in case of need and to keep their cell phones on at all times.

In case of necessity, officials concerned will change duty list of staff, Dr Angamuthu added.

He said that staff will have to face disciplinary action in case of absence from duty or any other lapses.

All camps-in-charge have been told to hold camp-specific meetings with their staff by tomorrow to sort out details.

Police officials present in today�s meeting briefed the attendants about various security issues related to the Ambubachi Mela.

The city has been divided into 11 sectors, each under senior police officials, for the duration of the Mela.

Traffic arrangements: Meanwhile, in view of the ensuing congregation of a large number of devotees on the occasion of Ambubachi Mela, movement of heavy commercial vehicles � both goods carrying and passenger � in the city has been restricted temporarily.

As part of the arrangements, inter-district and long-distance buses including buses operating under the ASTC on Dinesh Goswami Road, MG Road and TR Phukan Road, all goods carrying heavy and medium commercial vehicles � except those allowed by the authorities � from Maligaon to Bharalumukh on DG Road, have been restricted temporarily, from June 21 to 27, to ensure safety of the general public and the devotees on the roads, a statement issued by the DCP Traffic said.

Parking of vehicles also has been restricted temporarily on DG Road, from Maligaon Chariali to Bharalumukh point, PNGB Road, from Maligaon Chariali point to Railway Station and Maligaon-Pandu Road, from Maligaon Chariali to Pandu.
