Meet to discuss state of film industry in Manipur

IMPHAL, Sept 8 - In an effort to improve and develop Manipuri cinema, a two-day meet �Manipuri Cinema � Present scenario and measures for development� will be held by the Cine Actors� Guild Manipur (CAGM) in Imphal on September 14 and 15.

�We hope that something will come out for the betterment of the film industry after the discourse,� CAGM chairman Y Kumarjit said.

Renowned filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma, Film Forum Manipur (FFM) chairman S Mangoljao, Arts and Culture department director A Shivdas Sharma will attend the inaugural function on September 14. The event will be presided by CAGM president T Lokendra.

Social scientist Dhanabir Laishram, cultural activist Ningthouja Lancha and national award winner Haobam Pabankumar will speak on Manipuri films and its effect on society, the state�s cine policy, etc.

On the first day�s technical session, Birendra Salam of FFM, L Surjakanta of All Manipur Film Producers� Association, Premjit Naoroibam of All Manipur Filmmakers and Producers Association, Kh Bishwamitra of Cine Directors� Guild, Meghachandra Kongbam of Cine Artists and Technicians Association, Ksh Tejkeshwar of CAGM will give presentations.

On the second day, eight personalities � Rajmani Ayekpam of Cine Writers and Playwrights Forum, Hijam Angouba of All Manipur Cinematographers� Association, Sanad Aribam of Cine Editors� Guild, Nanao Khurai of Cine Make-up Artistes and Costume Designers� Guild, Thangjam Birjit Meetei of Cine Choreographers� Guild, A Premkumar of Cine Equipment Handlers� Association Manipur, Naorem Sanaton of United Cinema Hall Exhibitors� Association, Manipur will give presentations on different aspects of the film industry in the state.

�In between the technical sessions, there will be three open forums where the paper presenters will respond to questions from the invitees and delegates,� said convenor Tejkeshwar .

The Manipur State Cinema Policy � to improve the film industry in the state � was approved by the state cabinet on August 21, 2019. Manipur, which earlier produced more than 50 films a year, now produces only about 30 films. However, the production rate of music video is said to be encouraging.
