GUWAHATI, Aug 26 The Assam College Principals Council (ACPC) has expressed serious concern over the exclusion of a large number of college teachers working against the non-sanctioned posts from the list of beneficiaries of the University Grants Commission (UGC) pay scales.
The ACPC said in a statement here today that the new pay scales introduced for the college teachers of the State would benefit only the teachers working against the traditional subjects. The teachers working against the new subjects are left out of the purview of the new pay scales.
Moreover, the accountability of the teachers linked with the UGC plan for academic upgradation, also needs to be addressed. The new pay scales form only a part of this upgradation programme. These pay scales are tagged with some new responsibilities of the teachers, said the ACPC.
There is also the need to chalk out plans to face the situations being created by the introduction of the semester system in the undergraduate level education of the State from the next academic session.
The issues concerning the councils of higher education proposed in both the national and state levels, teachers career advancement issues versus the class days etc are also the other issues that need serious discussions at this juncture, said the ACPC.
The ACPC said that considering the seriousness of the above issues, it would hold discussions on them at its executive committee meeting scheduled for August 30 in the Gauhati Commerce College premises.
