Meet sheds light on domestic violence

RANGIYA, March 10 - Under the aegis of the Women�s Cell of Manabendra Sarma Girls� College of the locality, International Women�s Day was observed with a day-long programme at the College premises.

Coinciding with the event, a lecture on the role of women in the development of society was organised where Kiran Patowary, retired Headmistress of PB Daulpukhuripar Girls� School spoke about the duties and contributory responsibilities of a woman in the overall balance and better uplift of the society.

She urged the girl students of the college to be courageous in their attitude and inculcate the habit of righteousness, besides speaking on the deeds and sacrifices made by different women of Assam.

Earlier, girl students under the leadership of Bandana Kalita of the college staged a street drama on women empowerment and significance of the event, besides another student Trishna Saloi performed mono acting. The event was moderated by Aparajita Sarma, a faculty member of the Education Department of the college.

The Day was also observed by the District Legal Service Authority under the aegis of the DLSA, Kamrup, Amingaon, in association with Taluk Legal Services Committee, Rangiya, and Women�s Cell of Manabendra Sarma Girls� College.

An awareness programme later focussed on domestic violence. Prarthana Neog, Judicial Magistrate of Rangiya SDJM Court, Neelakshi Sarma of 181 women�s helpline, Afsana Khatoon on behalf of the organisers spoke about domestic violence on women and apprised the students about the assistance and legal aid available under such circumstances for the protection of women�s rights in the society.
