Meet resolves to popularise patriots

GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - The Mahapurush Madhavdev Foundation of Jorhat in association with the local Freedom Fighters� Sanmilan observed Gandhi Jayanti and conferred four memorial awards on the occasion, a press release received here stated.

A meeting held on the occasion resolved to popularise the seminal contributions of patriots Maniram Dutta Dewan Borbhandar Baruah, Piyali Barua and Kushal Konwar for the future generations.

The function under reference was held at the Jorhat district Freedom Fighters� Sanmilan Bhawan. The prize-giving function was conducted by the Foundation�s founder secretary Ratul Baruah.

Organised in sync with Gandhi Jayanti, the Pulin Bordoloi Award in memory of the noted actor was conferred on Porijit Bora, a student of Rebakanta Barua High School, while the Niru Barua Award in memory of the late social worker was presented to Prasurjya Gogoi, a student of Sadhoni Jatiya Vidyalaya of Jorhat. Similarly, Suvrajit Bora was given the Kanak Bordoloi memorial award, while Rahul Bora, a student of Rebakanta Barua High School was presented the Tirthanath Sarma Barua award respectively.

Earlier, the ceremonial lamp was lit before a bust of the Father of the Nation by senior citizen-cum-freedom fighter Debeswar Doloi. The objectives were elucidated by Ratul Baruah, who condemned the proxy war perpetuated by Pakistan, including the recent Uri attack. He recounted the supreme sacrifice of the brave Indian soldiers along the international border.

As a part of the itinerary, the official mouthpiece of the Foundation titled Amar Thikona was formally released at the function by advocate Pradip Bora.

At the outset, Ram Dhun was presented, while Niru Rekha Baruah recited the Naam Ghosa.
