Meet on trafficking held at Kalaigaon

KALAIGAON, April 25 - An awareness meeting was held at Kalaigaon Girls� High School on Tuesday to create awareness against child marriage, trafficking of women and children and other illegal activities in collaboration with Udalguri district administration, District Social Welfare office and District Legal Services Authority.

The meeting was presided over by Dilip Kumar Das, Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district. Other officials present in the meeting were Abhijit Gaurav, Additional SP of Udalguri; Biraj Barua, Circle Officer of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle; officials of 8th APBN and SSB; District Social Welfare Officer, social worker Kami Ram Sahariah, Child Welfare Committee, Udalguri; students and teachers, Anganwadi workers, helpers and supervisor etc., were also present in the meeting.

Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Das spoke on various issues regarding women and child trafficking and also about child marriage. He also said that the people have been protesting against all types of atrocities and injustice done to woman, children all over the country. He specifically mentioned that women and children belonging to BPL community are lured for good jobs and money outside the State for which they are trafficked and then engaged in illegal activities.

According to him, women must not feel helpless and vulnerable because the government has been taking several steps like inception of various schemes for women who dwell below the poverty line and also different types of training etc.
