Meet on SAGY scheme for �Model Village� held

JONAI, May 21 � The panchayat authority of Kemi-Jelom Gram Panchayat today convened a public meeting for making necessary arrangements for the implementation of the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna scheme in the village, which has been announced as a �Model Village� under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) scheme.

The day-long meting (gram sabha) held at the Sunday market complex here today covered various aspects including understanding of the SAGY, identification of key problems and proposed strategies, adoption of schemes proposed in the panchayatiraj, representative meetings besides discussion on developmental activities in Adarsh Gram, participatory planning under the yojana etc.

It is pertinent to mention that Kemi-Jelom Gram Panchayat under the Murkongselek Tribal Development Block (Jonai) in Dhemaji district was adopted by the Lakhimpur MP cum Union Minister of State (Ind), Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal in November last year, to ensure overall development of the village. The SAGY scheme envisages a comprehensive development of the identified village under the supervision of the concerned MP.

The department officials in the meeting highlighted the various important points regarding the implementation, recommendation of schemes on a priority basis for undertaking development works under different sectors besides incorporating the views of the members of the PRI thereby making the scheme a holistic and need-based one.

At the very outset, the president of Kemi-Jelom Gram Panchayat, Sankar Tayung gave a brief overview about the proposed scheme and its importance in ensuring overall and holistic development of the villages to be undertaken under SAGY. He asked the officers concerned to ensure its speedy implementation besides arranging regular meetings about the status of ongoing activities so that the works of different departments involved are synergized in a proper manner.

The meeting was attended by Jonai SDO (Civil), Atul Kumar Sarma, EAC cum Nodal Officer (SAGY) H Millik and head officials from various government departments like agriculture, veterinary, PHED, PWD, Panchayat & RD besides panchayat leaders, gaom burhas, public leaders and NGO activists. However, a section of villagers raised questions over transparency in preparation and implementation of the SAGY schemes. They urged the panchayat members to include all demands made by the common villagers.
