Meet on NE energy sector tomorrow

GUWAHATI, June 18 � A national conference with the theme �Challenges and Opportunities of the Energy Sector in North-east under the Present Scenario� will be held at the Assam Administrative Staff College here on June 20 under the aegis of the SECONE Society.

This is the fifth such conference organised by SECONE which will deliberate on the potential of conventional energy in the North-east, be it coal, oil or hydropower. The need for creating potential for alternative energy would also be discussed. The objective of this conference is to take stock of the energy scene in the North-east with its challenges and opportunities and to find how to improve the energy scene and also how to create a balance between conventional and unconventional sources of energy in this region.

The conference will be inaugurated by chief guest SK Srivastava, CMD of Oil India Ltd., while Prof MK Chaudhuri, VC of Tezpur University will deliver the keynote address as the guest of honour.

The society, with Dr PK Chaudhuri as chairman, AK Saikia as secretary and CA Pawan Kumar Sharma as adviser and executive members from various energy sector organisations in the North-east, was formed in 2009 at the behest of then Governor of Assam late SC Mathur. The acronym of SECONE is Synergy for Energy-Challenges and Opportunities in the North-east which signifies its objectives.
