GUWAHATI, Oct 15 � A meeting was held on Tuesday at the DC office, Kamrup Metro here regarding celebration of the Chhath Puja festival.
The meeting was chaired by Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, said an official statement.
During the meeting, the Senior Superintendent of Police (City) AP Tiwari requested the Puja committees to arrange sufficient volunteers to regulate the flow of devotees and control the crowd.
He also requested the committees to earmark the areas with proper barricades for offering puja
and bathing in the Brahmaputra with the help of Inland Water Transport personnel.
He also spoke about the security arrangements including CCTV cameras and traffic control.
IWT officials said that the department will erect red flag over the Brahmaputra where the water level is too deep. This will be done in consultation with the Chhath Puja committees.
The meeting fixed the places of worship at the bank of Brahmaputra from Uzanbazar Ghat to Bharalumukh, Chunsali, Noonmati, Pandughat, Maligaon railway stadium, Meen Bhawan Birubari, Basistha, Jyotikuchi, Narengi, Patharquary, Azara and Sonapur.
The meeting also directed all officer in-charge of the police stations to complete the police station level meetings with all Puja committees by October 20.
The district administration will take necessary steps to prohibit plying of private machine and country boats in Brahmaputra during Chhath Puja.
