TINSUKIA, Feb 28 � The national conference of the Moran community, organised jointly by All Moran Students� Union, Asom Moran Sabha, Moran Sahitya Sabha, Sodou Moran Kala Sangskriti Bikash Kendra, Moran Jatiya Mahila Parishad and Moran Jatiya Karmachari Saikhik Bikash Mancha, got under way at the Rajanikanta Bordoloi Field, Makum here on Thursday. On the first day, the respective flags of the organisations were hoisted by their presidents. The swahid tarpan was offered by the general secretaries of the organisations.
A tree plantation programme was conducted by Tarun Gogoi, Divisional Forest Officer, Makum. The book fair held on the occasion was inaugurated by noted writer and poet Dr Nirmal Sahewala. A cultural rally was also flagged off by Srikumar Dohotia.
The book release function held later was conducted Prabin Bora, president, Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha. In the five-day conference, marathon, debates, cultural meets, seminars, poetry sessions, Science Day, educational tour for students, drawing, recitation, competitions on Rabha, Jyoti, Bhupendra and Rabindra Sangeet, etc., will be held.
On March 2, the conference will observe the Swahid Divas and the day will conclude with an open session.
