Meet discusses future road map for development of Jagiroad College

JAGIROAD, June 10 - Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Jagiroad College organized a day-long public meeting with well-wishers, staff, alumni and student representatives of the college seeking the future road map for development of the college.

It is to be mentioned here that the college was established in 1979 and it has already crossed 40 years of existence. The NAAC has already assessed the college twice during this tenure and graded it as B with CGPA 71 in 2004 and also graded it as B+ with CGPA 2.71 in 2016. The college celebrated its silver jubilee twice during this period, the first one in 2004 for completion of 25 glorious years of its Arts stream and second time in 2014 for completion of 25 glorious years of its Science stream.

The college has already started three skill-based courses, namely, Acting, Retail Management and Tourism and Hospitality Management under BVoc Scheme of UGC and three skill-based courses, namely, Paper Technology, Fashion Technology and Computer Hardware and Networking under Community College Scheme of UGC. The college has been selected for participation in Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Mission of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India. More than 100 students of the college have registered in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan Mission last year and actively participated in the summer internship programme through which students did some wonderful projects involving village people. The college has already adopted five villages under UBA mission and survey works have been done on different aspects of these villages apart from some social service activities with its NCC and NSS volunteers.

This year, the college has received the DBT Star College Scheme Grant, one of the most prestigious grants to upgrade Science education at the under-graduate level. The college brought laurels recently with the inclusion of its name in the list of �Best Colleges of India� in a recently-declared survey report done by MDRA and published by India Today. As per the survey report, the Arts, Science and Commerce streams of the college have been ranked 112, 112 and 141 respectively in the list.

Therefore, to retain its good track record the IQAC of college organized the day-long get-together function. Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Piyush Hazarika, who is also the local MLA, attended the function as the chief guest.

In his speech, he expressed his happiness for the achievement of the college in the India Today ranking. He also expressed his happiness over getting the Star College Grant and offered a few suggestions to be implemented by the college authority in the coming days.

Earlier, Principal of the college Dr BC Neog explained the objectives of the meeting. In his speech, he offered his sincere thanks and gratitude to one and all who helped the college in achieving this height. The college is shining today due to the quality service provided by its faculties, office staff and governing body members, he said. Their dedication is the key for this upward journey and, hence, they deserve special appreciation.

Expressing their happiness over the recent achievements of the college, other speakers also offered various suggestions in their speeches.
