Meet condemns terror attacks in Bangladesh

GUWAHATI, July 5 - Following the deadly terrorist attacks in Bangladesh, Iraq and Saudi Arabia during past three days which killed scores of innocent people, civil society organisations from across Assam today held a public meeting here in the city to denounce such acts of terrorism and create awareness among the masses regarding the dangers posed by the radical ideologies and sectarian beliefs.

The gathering of hundreds of people from all walks of life also held a silent march from Dighalipukhuri and covering a number of localities before culminating at Liladhar Kshetra.

A public meeting was also held under the chairmanship of senior journalist Haider Hussain. Senior advocate of the Gauhati High Court, Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhary, and former principal of Guwahati Medical College, Dr Taufiqur Rahman Borbora, spoke in the meeting.

All present on the occasion called upon both the Central and the State governments to curb terrorist activities in the country with a strong hand.

A committee was formed on the occasion to hold a series of awareness meetings across Assam to make the common people aware about the issue of terrorism and the threat posed by terrorist elements to the social fabric of our society.

Eminent personalities from all walks of life took part in the meeting.
