By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, Feb 7 - As per the directive of the Central government, the State Health Department has deputed a six-member medical team at the Jorhat airport at Rowriah to screen passengers coming from outside the state for coronavirus symptoms.

An official of the Health department said a team comprising two doctors and four paramedics have been deputed at the airport since Tuesday. The team is being supported by officials of the Airport Authority of India.

As per the directive of the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, a voluntary disclosure form for passengers coming from outside Assam, who may have returned from China or any other neighbouring South-east Asian country, has been made available at the airport so that medical screening could be done immediately. It may be mentioned here that there are regular outgoing and incoming flights daily from Jorhat.

The official also informed that an isolation ward has been kept ready at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital to admit any patient affected with coronavirus. The Health department has also started awareness drives across the district on preventive steps to be taken against the spread of the virus and its symptoms. Three-layered masks have been distributed among health workers engaged in the job, the official disclosed, adding that about 500 masks were in stock in the district and the process of procuring over 1,000 more masks has been initiated.
