Mediapersons feted at Behali

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Oct 18 - In all, 22 senior journalists, including Amitabh Baruah, Niranjan Hazarika, Basanta Borah, Ratan Bhuyan, Bhuban Saikia, Hiranya Borthakur, etc were conferred the �Kriti Sangbadik 2020 Award� by Green Ashiana Welfare Society at a function organised at Monabari under Behali LAC in Biswanath district on Saturday. The event was hosted by Dr Kishore Hazarika, president of Green Ashiana Welfare Society while Snigdha Jyoti Hazarika, secretary of Green Ashiana Welfare Society, conducted the ceremony.

Padma Hazarika, MLA from Chatia LAC was presented the �Udit Surya 2020 Award� for his social work. Accepting the award, MLA Hazarika said that the multi-purpose agricultural farm �Kanyaka� started under his supervision initially in 2,000 bighas of land today employs 70/80 people every day and in addition to this, 700/800 youths are engaged in this enviable journey of �Kanyaka�. He informed that 52 self-help groups (SHGs) had been set up in the land which was earlier occupied by people of doubtful nationality at Chakighat.

In his brief speech, the MLA called upon every Assamese to be self-reliant and to stay away from negative issues and engage in positive activities.

Leading journalist Pranay Bordoloi attended the event as the chief guest. In his speech, Bordoloi reiterated Biswanath�s lack of presence on the tourism map despite having a lot of historical wealth in and around Biswanath Chariali.

Popular novelist and writer Ranju Hazarika and noted social worker Dr Mandira Barua also spoke a few words on the occasion.
