GUWAHATI, Aug 27 � Renowned scholar Dr Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya has stated that the BTAD violence was the outcome of conflict over land and recalled historical events in connection to settlement of migrants in the present violence-hit areas.
Participating as Guest of the Month at Guwahati Press Club (GPC), Dr Bhattacharya shared the experiences of his life with the mediapersons present on the occasion and called for objective journalism to highlight the issues of the people and times. Comparing his time when he worked in the print media several decades back and media of today, Dr Bhattacharya said that sensationalism and yellow journalism has become very obvious in today�s media.
�I would like to appeal to all friends in the media to work hard and without fear,� he said adding that truth was the only reality in existence. However, he also mentioned that truth was a dynamic process of life and the concept will undergo changes along with the changing times.
Known for his candidness and simplicity, Dr Bhattacharya said that he had to struggle a lot in life to attain his present position and acknowledged the contribution of his parents and teachers in the journey of his life.
Born in the year 1925, Dr Bhattacharya secured his PhD from Gauhati University for his research paper �A Descriptive Analysis of the Bodo Languages�. He is a life member of the Linguistic Society of India, Deccan College, Pune and involved with a host of other associations.
�There is nothing sacred in the world except knowledge. It is a process which is endless,� he said.
Observing on the present crisis in the apex literary body of the State, the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Bhattacharya said that the need of the hour was for introspection and infusion of new ideas to streamline the literary body.
