SILCHAR, Feb 12 � The media cricket tournament season II, organised the Barak Valley Sports Journalist Association (BUKSS), saw the defending champions Dainik Jugasankha group beat Samayik Prasanga by 34 runs in the opening match at the SM Dev Stadium here today.

Opting to bat first, the winners scored 119 for 5 wickets in 15 overs. Anupam Roy top scored with 45 while Pritam Das added 25. The Samayik Prasanga team gave a close fight but were restricted to only 85 runs for 8 wickets. Jayanta Paul was their leading scorer with 30 of 21 balls.

In another match, Nababarta Prasanga defeated Dainik Janakanta by three wickets. In reply to Nababarta Prasanga�s 83 for eight in 15 overs, Dainik Janakanta reached the winning target in the 13.2 overs losing seven wickets. Abhijit Bhattacharjee of the winning team was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner GM Hazarika inaugurated the championship. Students of Maharishi Vidya Mandir performed dance numbers at the start of the media cricket festival.
