Me-Dam-Me-Phi observed

GUWAHATI, Jan 31 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today stressed the need for building a prosperous Assam where each and every community would have equal rights and opportunities to forge ahead on all fronts following the legacy of Chaulung Suikapha, the founder of the Ahom dynasty.

Addressing the Me-Dam-Me-Phi function organised by the Greater Guwahati Me-Dam-Me-Phi organising committee at Suikapha Nagar,

Gogoi said that the great king Suikapha brought about a unique cultural integration and cultural assimilation among various communities, forming the greater Assamese society in the process.

�It is time we tried to emulate Suikapha�s ideal and build a strong and vibrant society irrespective of caste, creed or religion,� he said.

The Chief Minister announced a grant of Rs 25 lakh for the auditorium coming up at Suikapha Nagar in the plot of land for the Sati Joymoti Memorial Trust.

Earlier, the Chief Minister offered the traditional ancestral worship amidst the chanting of hymns by the Ahom priests.

The Kamrup Zila Tai Ahom Students� Union also celebrated the occasion with local participation at Joynagar.
