SHILLONG, March 4 - The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) has named Dr Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi as its candidate for the election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in the State, slated to be held on March 26.
Dr Kharlukhi�s candidature was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong after a sub-committee constituted by the MDA Government recommended his name as the alliance candidate. Tynsong is the chairman of the MDA sub-committee.
However, he did not name other ticket aspirants who were in the race during the MDA�s selection process. Since Dr Kharlukhi has been recommended as the candidate, it is not necessary to discuss other names, Tynsong said.
He added that though Dr Kharlukhi would contest the polls under the symbol of the National People�s Party (NPP) of which he is the State president.
