SHILLONG, Jan 16 - A Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) delegation led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma would be visiting the Union Capital and meet the Prime Minister to express its �unhappiness� for passing the Citizen�s Amendment Bill (CAB) in the Lok Sabha.
�We will be meeting the PM and the Union Home Minister and express our unhappiness that the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha,� Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said after a Cabinet meeting.
The MDA is a coalition led by the National People�s Party and also comprises of the United Democratic Party, and other smaller parties of the State. The coalition also includes the BJP.
One of the BJP legislators AL Hek is part of the Cabinet. The other BJP MLA is Sanbor Shullai. Both the legislators have stood against the Bill and have also written to the party�s central leadership.
The State Cabinet has also passed a resolution opposing the CAB which seeks to grant Indian citizenship rights to religious minority groups in countries such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
