Mayank bags national U-11 chess title

GUWAHATI, Nov 23 - Mayank Chakraborty of Assam created history by claiming the title in the National U-11 Boys Chess Championship held at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi from November 15 to 23.

In the final round Mayank beat his much higher rated opponent Koustuv Dash of Orissa.

Mayank scored 9.5 rounds from 11 rounds.

Ilaam Parthi AR of Tamil Nadu got second position by scoring 9 points while Kshatriya Nitin Vekhande of Maharastra got third position by scoring same points.

With this win Mayank got selection to participate in World U-12 Chess Championship and Asian U-12 Chess Championship to be held next year.

A 12-member Assam team took part in the championship.
