GUWAHATI, Sept 30 Voluntary Organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has demanded that the Government should have compatibility between assurances and activities to solve the burning problems of the citizens of Guwahati.

The SGBG, in a release, said that immediate steps should be taken to provide drinking water to all citizens and the old pipes should be replaced soon. The SGBG called upon the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) to provide water with tankers in the areas where pipelines are yet to be installed.

As most areas of the city face the waterlogging problem after a brief spell of rain, the SGBG demanded that all the drains of the city should be cleared at least once in a week. The implementation of Government schemes for solving the problem of artificial floods should be expedited after the Durga Puja and encroachments from all the water bodies should be removed in the interest of the citizens of Guwahati. Steps should also be taken to prevent fresh encroachments, the SGBG said.

The voluntary organization noted that the ban on plastic bags is not imposed strictly in Guwahati city and called upon the administration to be strict on the issue. The people should also cooperate with the Government on the issue, it pointed out.

The SGBG reiterated its demand for construction of a bridge for movement of light vehicles between Guwahati and North Guwahati over the river Brahmaputra.
