Massive fire in�Abutani stockyard, 24 tempos gutted

JALUKBARI, March 9 - A massive fire broke out in�the Abutani Mercantile stockyard at Boragaon last night in which about 24 Piaggio Ape tempos were completely gutted.

Lokhra Fire Station Officer Pranab Bora told The Assam Tribune that a night watchman in the stockyard informed them, following which they initially deployed three fire tenders to douse the flame. But the fire was massive and they had to deploy another four fire tenders to control the fire. It took the seven fire tenders around three hours to completely douse the flame.

Between 400 to 500 tempos were in the warehouse at the time of the incident. The inferno also triggered fear and panic in the locality.�The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, while the total loss was estimated at around Rs 72 lakh.

Station Officer Bora informed that there was no proper fire safety measure in the massive stockyard, due to which the flame could not be controlled easily.

Jalukbari Police Outpost and Lokhra Fire Station have started an investigation into the matter. No FIR has been lodged by the authorities of the stockyard till the filing of this report.
