DIPHU, Oct 20 - A series of seizures of narcotic and psychotropic drugs, worth hundreds of crores of rupees, being trafficked from international border through Manipur, Nagaland and Karbi Anglong district of Assam to Guwahati have astounded security agencies including the district police. These seizures which have been made in the last couple of months are still continuing.

In one such action against drug smuggling, the Karbi Anglong Police seized a massive delivery of drugs along the inter-State border at Lahorijan over the NH-36 on Sunday.

The seized unadulterated heroin is anticipated to cost more or less Rs 21 crore in the intercontinental market. Based on definite intelligence input concerning the presence of illegal imports of drugs in the shipping vehicles, the Dillai Police personnel intercepted a Guwahati-bound truck on the highway. After a methodical examination, the police team pulled out six containers holding over three kilograms of heroin from a concealed chamber of the truck.

Driver Rame Gurung and his co-worker Bhim Gurung were taken into custody after the seizure of the banned drugs. Police informed that both are inhabitants of Manipur. The first round of investigation have confirmed the consignment was being taken to Guwahati from Imphal.

We dont want to disclose the particulars of the operation, as we are planning to conduct raids in other parts of the State and smash the delivery network of the drug runners, Karbi Anglong police Chief Debojit Deori later told the media.

In the past couple of months, police have seized over 15 kilograms of heroin in four different police station areas i.e., Bokajan, Manja, Khatkati and Dillai. The seized drugs include narcotics in pharmaceutical tablets and capsule form, marijuana etc.
