SIVASAGAR, Feb 16 - A massive anti-CAA rally was organised jointly at Chakimukh field at Nazira yesterday by various organisations, namely CPI, Bir Lachit Sena and TAYPA.
Addressing the rally, Kanak Gogoi, secretary of Sivasagar district council of CPI said that the BJPs advocacy and superficial statistical data for bringing in the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 must be countered with logical and judicial reasons.
He called upon the people to rise above religious polarisation and defeat the communal forces. He said that Amit Shah does not represent the people of India and the RSS can never represent our Parliament.
Gogoi said that there is no justification in building a Hindu India following Islamic state of Pakistan. India shall remain a secular country for all time to come.
Hridayananda Ghana Konwar spoke on the objectives and said that the meeting was organised to sensitise the people about the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 and its alleged reactionary effect on Assamese language and culture.
Chitu Baruah in his address said that the BJP government is absolutely autocratic and demanded immediate release of Akhil Gogoi, Dhaijya Konwar, Bitu Sonowal and Manosh Konwar from jail and added that the government is afraid of these leaders.
The rally was inaugurated by Sayed Mobidul Islam, former Principal of Nazira College. Sringkhal Chaliha, a fireband leader of Bir Lachit Sena, in his speech said that RSS and BJP will be resisted tooth and nail from breaking up the Assamese nationhood.
Referring to the Narendra Modi and Amit Shah combination, Former Principal of Geleki College Suresh Chetia in his address said that if the two Gujarati men can control India, we the Assamese people can very well look after ourselves and can defy the Centres plan to re-impose Bengali language on us.
Swapnalee Changmai, PG student of Dibrugarh University too addressed the rally and called upon the people for a united stand against CAA.
Namti-Simaluguri Road: Meanwhile, the Namti-Simaluguri portion of the historic Dhodar Ali is in a very bad shape since about a year now due to perennial neglect on the part of the PWD.
It goes without mentioning that tax-paying public in their thousands from the adjoining villages along the stretch have been suffering a lot.
Especially during the examination season, the hapless candidates from Nazira, Namti Ali, Mezenga, Geleki, Sontok etc., have to come to Gargaon and Nazira College and Nazira HS School examination centres regularly by travelling across this bone-jarring road stretch.
Nazira MLA Debabrat Saikia told The Assam Tribune yesterday that he has been in touch with Revenue Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmah and pleading for a special package for the road under reference.
