Massive anti-CAA protests across State

SIVASAGAR, Dec 11 - After a gap of about ten months, Sivasagar witnessed a massive anti-CAA rally today taken out by 16 organizations. The organizations, among others, include � Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad, Krishak Adhikar Surakhya Samity, Jagrita Nari Samaj, Bir Lachit Sena, Sangrami Yuva Moncha, Aaikya Sena Asom, Gariya Moria Yuva Paishad, Kalita Janagosthiya Satra Santha, Sah Janajati Chatra Santha, Ahom Sena, Sangrami Yuva Parishad, Chatra Yuva Sanmilan, Ahom Gana Moncha .The protesting organizations demanded immediate repeal of the controversial Act.

Utpal Konwar and Mithu Dutta, president and secretary of AJYCP respectively said that the organizations have once again hit the streets in memory of the five martyrs who had sacrificed their lives while protesting against CAA in Guwahati on December 11, 2019.

DOOMDOOMA: The 2nd phase of anti-CAA agitation began today at Doomdooma. The Tinsukia District Committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) in collaboration with various other ethnic organisations and public of Doomdooma and Rupai Siding took out a huge procession in the tea town today against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. Hundreds of people participated in the procession. The participants shouted slogans against the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State.

Earlier, rich tributes were paid to the five martyrs who laid down their lives in the police firing in Guwahati last year during the anti-CAA agitation. People offered floral tributes to the martyrs at Gandhi Chowk of Doomdooma town.

Later talking to mediapersons, president of the Tinsukia District Committee of AJYCP, Surajit Moran termed the CAA as a repressive, anti-Assamese and communal one. He demanded the government to repeal the Act immediately.

DHEMAJI: After a long gap because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dhemaji district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Friday restarted its movement against Citizenship (Amendment) Act enacted by the Central government.

The AJYCP organized a protest meeting at Dhemaji town public bus stand and took out a mass procession along the town roads, shouting slogans against the government for passing the contentious Act in order to ensure Indian citizenship for foreign nationals.

Addressing the meeting, AJYCP central cultural secretary Devajit Das said that the Central and State governments are forcefully implementing the Act in the State to demolish the age-old unity among the indigenous Assamese communities. He alleged that this imprudent act of the government would severely affect the language and ethnic culture of sons of the soil and threaten the existence of the indigenous Assamese people.

Alleging that the Centre has always discriminated against Assam, he said that the Centre has not worked for the protection of languages and cultures of Assamese communities. The Centre has denied introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP), which is a long-standing demand of the AJYCP and allied student organizations.

�The indigenous people of the State has never sought such an Act that will grant citizenship to foreign nationals based on religion. The government�s anti-people policy to suppress public protest in this regard will never be tolerated,� Das warned the government, while stating that the anti-CAA movement would be intensified.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhemaji district AASU president Deepak Sarma, AJYCP president Gyan Sarma and General Secretary Bishnu Sarma strongly criticized the government for disregarding the mass movement opposing the contentious Act.

The AJYCP members and other participants later took out a protest march towards Dhemaji DC�s office and registered their protest demanding repeal of the Act.

Earlier they paid homage to the young martyrs, who had lost their lives in the anti-CAA movement in Guwahati.

NALBARI: The Bahjani Anchalik committee of AJYCP paid rich tributes to five martyrs of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act agitation through sand art on the bank of river Pagladia today. Artiste Manoram Kalita, who is the former president of Nalbari district committee of AJYCP, made sand statues of five martyrs and paid rich tributes to them.

It may be mentioned here that the AASU and AJYCP have again geared up the anti-CAA agitation in the State, which was disrupted due the coronavirus pandemic.

The Nalbari district committee of AJYCP today took out a protest rally at Nalbari town against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act. The protesters raised slogans against the Act and the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State.

NAGAON: Along with other parts of the State, the district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad and the Nagaon Anchalik committee of All Assam Students� Union (AASU) separately registered strong protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 here today.

The Nagaon anchalik committee of AASU observed the day as a Black Day and unfurled hundreds of black flags throughout the town. The protesters put up the flags in almost all corners of the town including governmental offices, institutions, shops, malls and other commercial establishments and staged protest against the CAA.

Similarly, the district wing of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) also took out an anti-CAA rally throughout Nagaon town today and raised anti-CAA slogans.

Hundreds of agitators from the district wing of the organization took part in a rally from Nagaon ITI Chariali, Panigaon to Nagaon Swahid Bhavan, where the agitators paid tributes to the five martyrs of anti-CAA agitation last year.

During the protest, the participants shouted various anti- CAA slogans and criticized both the BJP-led Central and State governments.

Deep Moni Bora and Pragjyoti Bonia, the district president and secretary respectively of the organization said that the organization will never accept the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 at any cost and ensure that the sacrifices of those five innocent martyrs will not go in vain.

Duliajan: �No CAA� slogans resonated in the air once again in Naharkatia today. As a part of the Statewide programme announced by the central committee of AJYCP, the Dibrugarh unit of the organization took out a massive anti-CAA rally from AJYCP Naharkatia regional unit office to Lengerijaan public playground.

Participating in the programme, AJYCP Dibrugarh district unit president, Girin Chetia said, �We are not going to forget the sacrifices of 5 young Assamese youth who gained martyrdom while protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act last year. We will continue our agitation through strong democratic protests until the contentious Act is scrapped,� he added.

Along with members of AASU Naharkatia regional unit, members of AATSA Naharkatia branch, members of AASA Naharkatia regional unit, members of All India Democratic Women�s Association Naharkatia regional unit, members of Asom Jatiya Parishad and more than 500 local people participated in the protest rally today. The protester raised various slogans against BJP-led Union and State Governments.

AJYCP Naharkatia regional unit president Gauranga Gogoi, Assam Tea Tribes Students� Association (ATTSA), Naharkatia unit secretary Govin Kumar and All Adivasi Students� Association of Assam (AASAA) Naharkatia regional unit secretary Mikhel Purty delivered speeches in the meeting.

Patacharkuchi: Various organizations today paid rich tributes to the martyrs of anti-CAA movement at Pathsala. The programme was arranged under the aegis of AJYCP Bajali Zila Samiti at Azad Bhawan where local Raas committee, Koch Rajbongshi Sangram Samiti, Kalita Janagosthi Students� Union took part. Later, a procession was also taken out in demand of withdrawal of the Act.
