Massive amount of cash seized in Cachar

SILCHAR, April 9 - Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, a total of Rs 16,68,800 in cash has been seized so far by the surveillance teams from across Cachar district.

On the sidelines of releasing the voter anthem, a video on voter awareness, Cachar Deputy Commissioner cum Returning Officer Laya Madduri told media persons here today that strict vigil is being maintained to control such activities and the surveillance teams are constantly monitoring the activities ahead of the election.

She also assured that strict action will be taken against officials against whom complaints of violating the MCC norms have been reported.

Further, Madduri informed that as many as 19 cases have been resolved under the cVigil app. �Steps are also being taken to bring down fake profiles of political parties and candidates on Facebook. We are taking a number of steps to generate awareness among young voters in the district,� she said.

As per revised roll by the Cachar Election Office, there are 11,91,289 voters in the district who would exercise their voting rights on April 18.

Selfie contest for young voters: In a bid to encourage the young voters including first-timers in the age group of 18 to 25 years, the Karimganj district administration has decided to organise a selfie contest among the voters for the Lok Sabha elections.

A release issued by the DIPRO Karimganj stated that the winners of the selfie contest will be awarded with gratis T-shirts, certificates and other gifts by the district administration.

Further, the release informed that youths willing to participate in the contest have to click selfie keeping the respective polling station at the background, the inked finger and voter card after casting vote on April 18.

The entries can be uploaded on www.facebook.com/Karimganj Lok Sabha Selfie Contest from 9 am on April 18 till April 21 (midnight). First 20 entries will be awarded from the assembly segment in the contest.
