HAFLONG, Sept 29 - A mass rally on �Clean Puja-Green Puja� under �Swachhata Hi Seva� (a nationwide sanitation campaign) organised by DWSC was held at Haflong recently.
A good number of students, NGOs as well as general public participated in the rally which started from the turning point of Synod School and concluded at NC Hills Autonomous Council, Haflong.
Talking to mediapersons, Pinaki Sankar Kar, Executive Engineer of PHE said the aim of this programme was to create awareness about cleanliness and to stay healthy among the masses.
He said, �Every year we can see an unsanitary and polluted environment after the auspicious celebration of Durga Puja. Such unhealthy environment can lead to fatal diseases and cleanliness is the only solution to reduce such diseases. So, my humble request to the public of Haflong town is to maintain a clean environment and to celebrate puja in a healthy and clean way. If we keep our homeland clean, we will be able to put an example to others and others can follow us. He said all the staff involved in Swachh Bharat Mission have been organising �Swachhata Hi Seva� programme as a nationwide sanitation programme throughout the district from September 15 till October 1. He also assured that the district of Dima Hasao is to be declared open defecation free (ODF) district within January 26 2018 though the target was March 18.
