Mascot �Goldy� launched to sensitise Bongaigaon electorate

BONGAIGAON, Nov 27 - �Goldy� � the mascot of a Golden Langur, which is an endangered primate species, will sensitise the electorate of Bongaigaon district about their rights and duties as a part of awareness drive on special summery revision of photo electoral roll, 2020, from tomorrow. Assam Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Khade launched the mascot �Goldy� through a video conference today at 10:30 am after Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner MS Lakshmi Priya briefed him about the aim and objective of this mascot at the beginning of the video conference today.

�Golden Langur species is a pride for Bongaigaon and it is found in Kakoijana Reserved Forest in the district. Since this reserved forest is going to be a sanctuary, so we have to conserve and save the species. Hence, the species has been selected as a mascot to create awareness on voting rights of the citizens and its conservation,� the Deputy Commissioner said. �This time we have a teacher named �Goldy�, which will teach us about our rights and duties regarding elections and it will also answer queries of the voters through online,� said district election officer Benu Mushahary.

In the afternoon today, the Deputy Commissioner had formally unveiled the mascot �Goldy� at a meeting held in her office premises and explained the reason to choose this primate species for campaign mascot.

Bongaigaon BEd college Principal Dr BL Sharma, Balicharan Ray, English lecturer of Birjhora HS School, Manasi Das, Associated Professor Bongaigaon College and ADC Pankaj Chamuah spoke in the meeting. ADC Tahidur Rahman, Bongaigaon Superintendent of Police Subodh Kumar Sonowal and District Information and Public Relation Officer Chumpi Chutia were present in the meeting.
