Dergaon, March 12: To aware the voters the district administration under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) launched two mascots and a selfie zone in Golaghat on Thursday.

While launching the selfie zone and mascots, the Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Bibhash Ch. Modi urged all the voters to caste their franchise cent percent in the ensuing election on March 27.

He also said that to help the senior and specially abled voters postal ballots will be provided.

The mascots have been named as Tikhar and Chutibaai with the characters of ‘Burhi aair sadhu’, the noted work of Lakhsminath Bezbaruah and designed as Swamp deer and Butter fly.

The reason behind the design is that a total of 224 species of butterflies are in Nambar Daoigroang Wildlife Sanctuary as per the census in 2016.

Similarly, the swamp deer is found in a limited number of forests in India where more than 1000 swamp deer are in Kaziranga National park in Golaghat district which is termed as an endangered animal by IUCN.

Releasing the mascots, the DC that the mascots were designed to give stress on anti-poaching awareness and research on butterflies.

The opening ceremony was also attended by DDC Orpah baglary, ADC Moon Gogoi, Pallavi Gogoi along with some other officials.
