Mary Kom exhorts women to realise their dreams

GUWAHATI, Jan 12 � Challenges, fame and huge fan following have been integral to the life of Mary Kom of late, but for this down-to-earth woman who has inspired many a young girls of the region to follow their dreams, learning is a never-ending process. Every moment in the life of this boxer is dedicated to betterment of performance and to learn the technique of survival in the ring.

Interacting with women from different professional background here today, on the occasion of a cement major�s completion of two years in the North East, Mary Kom expressed her views on a host of topics that particularly revolved on her life�s journey.

�Hard work, commitment and perseverance are the perfect ingredients for success,� she said, adding that family support is also important to climb the ladder of success. Without the support of her spouse and family it would not have been possible for her to make an imprint at the international level, she said.

Contemplating retirement within a couple of years, Mary Kom said that she would always be available to extend her help wherever necessary. She feels that everyone has to contribute towards the development of the country by achieving the best in their respective fields. �I have always played for my country,� she said.

For the gathering, it was a wonderful experience to interact with the renowned boxer and have a glimpse into the feelings of her heart.

Though it is difficult for a woman to balance personal and professional life, she said she would never give up easily and strive towards realising her dreams.

�Women should accept challenges in life and take the right decision always,� stressed Mary Kom.

She said that knowing to control and channelise anger in the right direction is essential for a boxer apart from other requirements like quickness of thought and movement. �Understanding my opponent and deciding my action is very important to survive in the ring,� she said, exhorting all women to dream and realise their dreams.
