Martyr Sunil Kalita�s last rites performed with national honours

BAIHATA CHARIALI, June 15 - Martyr Sunil Kalita, a CRPF jawan, who was killed in a attack by Maoist terrorists in Jharkhand, was cremated today with national honours before a huge gathering at his village Palara in Kamrup district.

Son of Madan Kalita and Kaushala Kalita, Sunil sustained serious injuries in an IED blast and attack by terrorists on May 28 along with his other colleagues. After treatment at Ranchi, he was referred to the AIIMS, New Delhi for better treatment where he breathed his last on June 13.

On June 14, the CRPF offered their last respects to the martyr and his body was kept at Narayana Hospital, Guwahati for the night that day and today his body was brought to Palara village for performing the last rites. Ministers Naba Kumar Doley, Bhabesh Kalita, MLA of Kamalpur LAC Satyabrat Kalita along with Hrishikesh Goswami, media adviser to the Chief Minister, Kamal Kumar Baishya, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup today visited the residence of the slain CRPF personnel.

Closely associated with Nabajyoti Club and a number of social organisations of the locality, Sunil studied B Pharm and in January 2011 joined the CRPF. Sunil had got married to Padumi just two months and six days ago and was thinking of organising his marriage party this month. His demise has cast a pall of gloom in the entire Kamalpur-Dimu area and several organisations including AASU, Nabajyoti Club, local media organisations and women bodies of the area paid their last respects to the brave soldier. A large number of CRPF jawans including senior officials of the paramilitary force attended the funeral function held today at the Palara public play ground.
