NAGAON, Nov 17 - Assam Police�s former DGP and Asom Sahitya Sabha (ASS)�s current president Dr Kuladhar Saikia inaugurated the statue of the martyr of Assamese Medium Movement, Anil Bora, installed at the site of his cremation near Nagaon�s Nehrubali today.
Significantly, the then district units of ASS and All Assam Students� Union (AASU) decided to build a statue in Bora�s memory at the site of his cremation near Nehrubali. It is due to some unknown reasons, both the organisations could not accomplish it during the last 48 years.
Inaugurating the statue of the martyr, ex-DGP Dr Saikia said those who sacrificed their lives for the Assamese language and culture would always be remembered. The movement once started by those martyrs should be taken to the world for better recognition, Dr Saikia said.
While taking part on the occasion, the younger brother of the martyr, Apurba Bora, expressed his gratitude to the district unit of AASU for setting up the statue of the martyr after 48 years of his assassination at Hojai.
At the inaugural function, along with other know as well as senior citizens of the town, the members of the district unit of AASU were present.
