�Mariani lynching case trial in fast-track court�

JORHAT, June 1 - Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi has said that the State government will be doing the needful to conduct the trial of the Debashish Gogoi lynching case of Mariani in a fast-track court.

Gogoi along with Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa today visited the residence of Debashish Gogoi at Milgaon, Puthinadi, under Deberapar Police Outpost of Mariani in Jorhat district and offered their condolences to the bereaved family and assured of bringing the culprits to book.

After coming out from the victim�s home, Gogoi told newspersons that the Government has taken a serious note of the incident and has asked the police authorities of the district to identify and arrest all those who were involved in the brutal attack on the youths at the earliest.

Gogoi said that the government will soon announce the decision about the fast-track court trial for the case.

He said that police investigation was under way and already five men have been arrested. Gogoi said the Jorhat district administration has been asked to complete the magisterial inquiry ordered by it, which will be done by an Additional Deputy Commissioner, within seven days and report will be submitted to the Government.

Meanwhile, police today picked up three more persons in connection with the incident and their interrogation was on.

In the meantime, the Jorhat district and Mariani units of AJYCP staged a protest at the Gabroo Purbat Tea Estate demanding severe punishment to the culprits.
