Mao Gate incident condemned

GUWAHATI, May 17 � The Zeliangrong Apex Body, Assam, Zeme Council, Assam, Zeliangrong Students� Union, Assam, Zeme Pui Baudi, Assam, Zeliangrong Pui Association, Assam and Zeme Mathai Council, Assam in a release issued to the press have vehemently condemned the incident at Mao Gate, Manipur on May 6 in which three Naga youths were killed and more than 75 injured in an unprovoked firing by the security forces on the public gathered there to witness the home-coming of their leader Th Muivah.

�Such unprovoked firings on innocent public by security forces can never be tolerated by any civilised society and should be condemned by all the right thinking citizens,� stated the press release.

The release demanded immediate and adequate compensations to all the victims.

The release condemned the decision of the Cabinet Committee of Manipur, not to allow the visit of Muivah to his birthplace in Manipur. �Such immature decision of the Cabinet Committee actually amounts to violation of the basic fundamental right of the Indian citizen. By blocking the entry of Th. Muivah, the Government of Manipur is actually indulging in gross violation of human rights as well,� said the release.
