Many trains affected due to landslide

GUWAHATI, June 14 - Landslides in as many as five places today in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section following heavy rains have affected the normal running of trains in that section, an NFR press release said here today.

Landslides occurred in the early hours in areas between Dautohaja and Phiding, at Phiding station yard, between Phiding and Mahur, between Jatingalampur and New Harangajao and between tunnels no. 9 and 10.

The press release said that all the landslides occurred between 1.30 am and 3.30 am today.

As a result, several trains running in that section have been partially suspended, including the 55616 Guwahati-Silchar Fast Passenger, the 25657 Sealdah-Silchar Kanchanjunga Express, the 55616 Silchar-Guwahati Fast Passenger, and the 15658 Agartala-Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express.

No passenger train has been stranded within the affected section, and the trains were stopped either in Lumding or in Badarpur.

Although the extent of damage was yet to be fully ascertained, restoration work has already started in all affected locations to restart train services as early as possible. The Divisional Railway Manager, Lumding, has reached the sites and is monitoring the situation, the release added.

Officials later said that restoration work has been completed and track-fit certificates issued in three locations out of the five affected in the Lumding-Badarpur section.
