Many KAAC polling booths identified as hyper-sensitive

DIPHU, June 6 - The State Election Commission has adopted various steps to conduct the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election slated to be held on June 17 smoothly.

In the meantime, the MAC polling stations of nine constituencies in Baithalangso LA constituency in west Karbi Anglong have been categorised into three different levels.

According to a report prepared by the Election Branch, there are 252 polling stations in nine MAC constituencies under Baithalangso LA in west Karbi Anglong. It may be mentioned here that a total of 64 polling stations out of the total 252 polling stations have been identified as very sensitive. While out of 252 polling stations, 107 and 81 polling stations have been identified as safe and comparatively safe polling stations respectively.

There are 1,83,330 voters in nine MAC constituencies in west Karbi Anglong. Out of 1,83,330 voters, 94,735 are male, while 1,83,330 are female voters. On the other hand, there are altogether 10 MAC constituencies under Diphu and Howraghat Assembly constituencies. There are 379 polling stations in 10 MAC constituencies under Diphu and Howraghat Assembly constituencies. Out of a total voters numbering 2,69,930 both in Diphu and Howraghat LA constituencies, 1,37,461 and 1,32,469 are male and female voters.

According to an official report, out of a total of 379 polling stations, 97 and 212 polling stations have been declared as sensitive and comparatively sensitive, while 72 polling stations have been identified as very sensitive.

On the other hand, there are seven MAC constituencies under Bokajan Assembly Constituency, and out of a total of 182 polling stations, 45 and 63 polling stations have been identified as sensitive and comparatively sensitive polling stations, while 40 polling stations out of 182 have been identified as very sensitive.

It may be mentioned here that out of 1,43,866 voters, 74,286 and 6,95,680 are male and female voters respectively.

The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council election has already been rescheduled to June 17, instead of the earlier declared date of June 12. In all, 17 candidates withdrew their nominations on May 22.

The election in all the 26 constituencies of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council will be held on June 17 between 8 am to 4 pm and the counting of votes will take place on June 17.
