Manpower shortage in Sericulture Directorate

GUWAHATI, Aug 13 - The Sericulture Directorate is suffering from acute manpower shortage. This is affecting the developmental activities of the directorate.

According to official sources here, the directorate has four posts of additional directors lying vacant. Three of these posts are lying vacant for quite a long time, while one of them is lying vacant for the past about one year.

There are one post of joint director and two posts of deputy directors lying vacant in the directorate for the past several months. Three posts each of assistant director and superintendent are lying vacant in the directorate for the past about one year.

Two posts of statistical officer and equal number of posts of internal auditors are lying vacant in the directorate for over one year, while 31 posts of field level demonstrators are lying vacant in the directorate for the past about two years and 41 posts of assistant manager are lying vacant in the directorate for the past about two months.

Moreover, the budget allocation of Rs 41.97 crore meant for development activities of the directorate for the financial year of 2018-19, is yet to be released. Due to this, no work could be undertaken by the directorate during the May-June plantation season.

It needs mention here that the sericulture department of the State does not have any scheme to provide relief to the muga farmers suffering from the man-made disasters as well as the natural disasters. Efforts to rope in insurance companies for the purpose have so far not been fruitful.
