Manoranjan Banerjee passes away

GUWAHATI, June 7 � Leading senior citizen and former noted footballer Manoranjan Banerjee died at his Panbazar residence here this morning.

85-year old Banerjee was a prominent businessman and was associated with several social organisations of the city. He was the chairperson of the trust board of the Sanatan Dharmasabha (Harisabha) and was an active member of Save Guwahati Build Guwahati. He was also the proprietor of Doson Chemicals.

Banerjee was a player of Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan in the late 40s and played in the league in the Mecca of Indian football. He was a reserve player of the Indian football team for the London Olympics in 1948.

Harisabha secretary Bhudhar Sarma, other members like Gopen Choudhury, Moloy Sengupta, Premadhar Sharma, Save Guwahati Build Guwahati official Ajoy Dutta and many more condoled the death of Banerjee. His death was also deeply mourned by Maharana AC, Assam Cricket Association, Assam Football Association, Guwahati Sports Association, etc.

His last rites was performed at the Bhuthnath cremation ground. He leaves behind his wife, one son and three daughters. The ACA flag was kept half mast in honour of Banerjee.
