BARPETA July 26 - The 16th Sri Sri Manohardev Memorial Festival will be celebrated at Singra in district with a three-day long programme from tomorrow.

The programme will begin with a cleanliness drive and plantation at 6 am tomorrow ( July 27). The flag of the festival will be unfurled by Ghanashyam Das, retired senior audit officer. Competitions on sports will be inaugurated by Harendra Nath Deka. Rita Deka, chairperson of the Assam State Marketing Corporation will lay the foundation stone of the permanent stage of Singra Gaon Unnyan Samiti at 10 am. Illumination will be done by social worker Dharmeswar Deka at 6.30 pm.

The second day will commence with the morning prayer at 4.30 am followed by naam prasanga and ceremonial opening of the main gate at 6.30 am by retired head master Bhabendra Das. A massive procession with the Bhagawata will be taken out that day which will be carried by social worker Khagendra Nath Roy and the procession will be flagged of by Anjan Kumar Dutta, retired professor of Bapujee College.

An open meeting to be held at 2 pm on July 29 will be chaired by Anjan Kumar Dutta, retired professor Bapujee College. Dr Abani Kumar Das, professor of Political Science department, Madhab Choudhury College, Barpeta will attend the meeting as the chief guest. Sadananda Saikia, Principal of Gahiya Higher Secondary School will be the appointed speaker.

Meritorious students of Singra will be felicitated in the meeting which will be sponsored by Sadananda Saikia, Principal, Gahiya Higher Secondary School. Saikia will also sponsor the Anandaram Saikia Memorial Extempore Speech competition to be held tomorrow.
